Calle Argumosa
The Lavapiés street that is almost entirely terraces, and the best value in central Madrid.
Argumosa slopes down from the Reina Sofía into Lavapiés and is lined almost end to end with outdoor tables. It is a local street rather than a scene — the crowd is the neighbourhood, the prices are Lavapiés prices rather than centre prices, and the kitchens behind the terraces cover most of the world.
Go early evening in spring or autumn. In the two weeks of the year when Madrid's weather is actually perfect, this is where the whole city appears to be sitting.
