LX Factory
A nineteenth-century industrial complex under the bridge, now studios, shops and food.
A former textile and printing complex wedged beneath the approach to the 25 de Abril bridge, reopened as a run of independent shops, studios, restaurants and one very photographed bookshop. The industrial bones are still obvious — painted signage, loading doors, gantries overhead — which is what keeps it from feeling like a shopping centre.
It is an afternoon, not a day. Go for the bookshop and the architecture, stay for a long lunch, and know that the Sunday market makes the whole yard considerably busier.
