Tram 28
A real tram route that became a tourist attraction, with all the problems that implies.
The 28 runs the old wooden Remodelado trams through the tightest, steepest parts of the city, which is why it is on every list and why it is frequently unusable. In the middle of the day in summer you will queue at Martim Moniz for forty minutes and then stand pressed against a stranger for the entire route.
The fix is timing and direction. Board early in the morning at the Graça end rather than Martim Moniz, ride downhill, and accept that you are on a working tram with people who are commuting. Buy your ticket before boarding; pickpocketing on this route is well documented.
