A pizza al taglio counter in Trastevere
Sample entry: trays in the window, cut with scissors, sold by weight.
A demonstration entry for Rome's best cheap lunch. Pizza al taglio is baked in long rectangular trays, and you point at how much you want — they cut it with scissors, weigh it, and reheat it. A hundred grams is a snack; two hundred and fifty is lunch.
No particular counter is being recommended. What a real entry would tell you: whether the dough is long-fermented, which toppings to avoid at the end of the day, and whether there is anywhere nearby to sit down with it.
Before you go
- Ordering
- Point at the tray and say how much — it is sold by weight, not by slice
- Portion
- Roughly 200–250g is a full lunch
